據說，十八世紀初有位英國舞臺劇導演制作一出戲，因 為不賣座而匆匆下檔，劇中唯一獲得好評的是雷聲的音響效 果。下一檔推出別人導的戲，他也去看了，沒想到那部戲用 了他用過的雷聲音效，他當場跳起來大聲抗議：They stole my thunder!(他們偷了我的雷聲! ) °后來，steal one’s thunder就是指「搶了別人的風采」，或「搶先發表」。
