本劇主要講述住在紐約長島的西佛一家的日常生活故事，是中國大陸較早引進(jìn)的國 外情景喜劇，在中國從1990年一直播出至1994年。1990年代初期一經(jīng)播出就引發(fā)了 收視高潮，片中邁克開朗調(diào)皮的形象為廣大觀眾所喜愛。而劇中西佛醫(yī)生對子女采 取啟發(fā)式教育的方式，也讓觀眾得到啟示。

Ben: Mom, Mom, Mom. I just saw a mouse in the yard like this big.
本：媽媽，媽媽，我看到樓上有一只老鼠，它有這么大。
Maggie: Was this a mouse or a small sheep?
瑪吉：它究竟是老鼠？還是小羊？
Ben: Well, it had beedy little eyes and a long tail, and went like this.
本：它長的賊溜溜的眼睛，走起路來就像這樣。
Carol: That's a sheep, alright?
卡羅爾：那是羊，沒有錯。
Maggie: Ok, ok. Where did I put those mousetraps?
瑪吉：好吧，好吧，我的老鼠夾放到哪里去了？
Carol: What are you gonna do with the mousetraps, Mom?
卡羅爾：你找老鼠夾干什么？媽媽？
Maggie: I will be honest with you, Carol. I'll plan to use them to trap mice.
瑪吉：老實(shí)對你說吧，卡羅爾，我打算用它來夾老鼠。
Carol: Won't that kill them?
卡羅爾：會把老鼠夾死嗎？
Maggie: Hopefully.
瑪吉：但愿這樣！
Carol: Mom.
卡羅爾：媽媽！
Maggie: Carol, a Mom's gonna do what a Mom's gonna do? Son, bring in my Camembert.
瑪吉：卡羅爾！當(dāng)媽媽的就應(yīng)該做好媽媽份內(nèi)的事。本，把奶酪給我拿來。
Ben: All right, we are going in with the big guns.
本：噢，好極了，老鼠一定會上鉤。
Carol: Oh, Mom. I mean they are cute, harmless, little creatures.
卡羅爾：可是媽媽，老鼠是個聰明無害的小動物呀？
Maggie: Carol, these are the same guys who carried the plague all through Europe during the tenth century and killed millions of people.
瑪吉：卡羅爾，十世紀(jì)的時候就是老鼠讓瘟疫傳遍了整個歐洲，死了幾千萬人。
Carol: That was a thousand years ago, Mom. How long are you gonna hold the grudge.
卡羅爾：那是一千年以前的事了，媽媽，難道你還不能原諒它嗎？
