119.在跑道邊
Marcy Hildebrandt raced to the counter and placed a $10,000 bet on horse number 7.
瑪西·希爾德布蘭特跑到柜臺給7號馬下了一萬美元的注。
As she turned away with the ticket in her hand she realized that she was in a good mood for the first time all day.
在她手拿票據離開的時候，她發現她第一次整天心情都很好。
In a little while she would be rich! She was sure of it!
她馬上就要發財啦！她對此深信不疑！
Danny Garcia had just told her that Horse number 7 was going to win for sure.
丹尼·加西亞剛告訴過她7號馬肯定會贏。
Just then the trumpet sounded.
就在這時喇叭響了。
That meant that the race would start in a moment.
這意味著比賽一會兒就要開始啦。
Marcy made her way through the crowd in a hurry and arrived at the fence just as the horses took off.
瑪西急忙穿過人群，就在馬出發的時候來到了柵欄邊。
After Horse number 7 fell behind and lost the race Marcy turned from the track in a fog.
在7號馬落后并輸掉比賽之后，瑪西困惑地離開了跑道。
She had bet everything! Now it was all gone!
她把所有的錢都押上了！現在她一無所有啦！
Just then Danny passed by in a terrible mood.
就在這時丹尼情緒極好地走過去了。
He had lost as well and he was in a pet. Somebody was going to pay, he was yelling.
他也輸了，正生氣呢。事情有點兒不對頭，他喊道。
After he knocked down three well-dressed women standing in a row, however, several guards grabbed him.
但是，當他把三個站成一排的時髦女子撞倒時，幾個保安抓住了他。
He would be thrown out of the track area in a minute and Marcy was glad.
他馬上就會被扔出跑道區。這下瑪西高興了。
She imputed her loss to his over-confidence in a stupid horse! He deserved it!
她把她的失敗歸咎于他對一匹笨馬的過于自信！他活該！
After Danny was gone Marcy fell into a chair. She was in no shape to walk.
丹尼走后，瑪西癱倒在一把椅子里。她處于一種無話可說的狀況。
And having just seen Danny put himself in a bad light, she knew what she needed to avoid. She had to first gather her wits.
剛剛看到丹尼搞得自己很難看，她知道她應該避免什么。她得首先保持清醒的頭腦。
When she stood up an hour later, it was in large part because she knew she had to face reality.

She sold her last diamond ring and went to the counter to place another bet.
