89.Before the Race
89.比賽之前
When Bob came out of the racing house the heat hit him full blast!
鮑勃從賽車場(chǎng)出來的時(shí)候，一股熱浪撲面而來！
Oh, how he hated these Arizona race tracks!
噢，他恨透了這些亞利桑那跑道！
He could fry an egg on the sidewalk. It was so hot!
他都可以在人行道上煎雞蛋了。真是熱死人了！
Soon he was drenched in sweat from head to foot!
很快他就全身都汗透了！
At least so are the other drivers, he thought to himself.
至少其他賽手也是這樣，他暗想。
Then he walked over to his race car to do his pre-race check.
接著他走向賽車做賽前檢查。
He looked at it from side to side and realized that the front tires were new!
他從左到右看了看，發(fā)現(xiàn)前胎是新的！
"What's with this?" he yelled to his mechanics；
"這是怎么搞的？"他對(duì)他的機(jī)修工吼道。
"You'll know I frown upon any last minute changes before a race!"
"你們都知道我不贊成比賽之前臨時(shí)做改變的！"
"The lady at the front desk told us to put them on!" Young Billy Carl replied.
"是前臺(tái)的那位女士叫我們換上的！"小伙子比利·卡爾回答說。
"The lady at the front desk? What does she know about tires?
前臺(tái)的女士？她知道什么呀？
From now on, no one gains access to this car without my permission. Do you hear me?" yelled Bob.
從現(xiàn)在起，沒有我的允許誰都不準(zhǔn)接近這輛車。聽見了嗎？"鮑勃喊道。
He was full of beans and angry from top to bottom!
他勁頭十足，徹底生氣了！
"Yes, sir. Billy Carl answered. But from his standpoint, Billy Carl couldn't understand why Bob was so angry.
"聽見了，先生！"比利·卡爾說。可是從他的觀點(diǎn)來看，比利·卡爾不能理解鮑勃為什么會(huì)發(fā)那么大的火。
Every car needed new tires from time to time, why not before a race?
每輛車都時(shí)時(shí)要換新輪胎的，比賽之前為什么不能換？
"I want you off the team for this race!" Bob yelled back.
"我要你這次比賽時(shí)到一邊去！"鮑勃高聲說道。
"You can sit in the front row and watch, but you stay there from start to finish!
"你可以坐在前排觀看比賽，但你要從頭到尾待在那里！ "
Billy Carl nodded in disappointment.
比利·卡爾失望地點(diǎn)點(diǎn)頭。
His intentions had been from his heart to listen to the lady and help Bob, but he had been obviously wrong!
他本來打算誠心誠意聽那位女士的話幫鮑勃一把，但他明顯是錯(cuò)了！
Oh, well. At least Bob hadn't fired him there on the spot!
不過還好，鮑勃至少?zèng)]有讓他當(dāng)場(chǎng)走人！
