75.過去的惡霸
Every once in a while a person has an opportunity to even something up.
有時每個人都會有一次機會扯平一些事情。
Remembering how a bully had once beaten him up as he had every other kid on the block, Marty had that opportunity.
想起那次一個惡霸是如何毒打他的——就像毒打街區所有其他孩子一樣，馬蒂也有過那樣一次機會。
Marty had never forgiven that bully.
馬蒂從來都沒有原諒過那個惡霸。
Every Jack has his Jill. Marty's Jill left him because of the fight he lost with that bully.
人各有偶。馬蒂失偶正是因為那次和惡霸打架時輸了。
And even now, when Marty thought of that Jill, he became depressed.
即使在現在，只要馬蒂想起那個“她”，他仍然會很沮喪。
She had been essential to his life and Marty had been lost, wandering every which way, ever since.
她對他是那么重要，而他卻失去了她。從那時起，他就一直四處流浪。
And he was every bit as angry now as he had been since that time.
從那時起，他一直還像當初那樣怒氣沖天。
When Marty met that bully again years later, every last bit of his being wanted to commit murder.
幾年之后，當馬蒂再次見到那個惡霸時，他整個人只想殺了他。
But the bully didn't recognize Marty.
可是那個惡霸沒有認出馬蒂。
And so Marty watched him for a while. He was shocked by what he saw.
因此馬蒂對他進行了一段時間的觀察。他被他的親眼所見驚呆了。
The bully was now kind to people from every walk of life! Something had changed!
那個惡霸現在對各行各業的人都可好啦！他真的發生了變化！
He had evolved from a devil from hell into a person that walked grandmothers across the street.
他從一個地獄里的魔鬼變成了送老奶奶過街的好人。
Marty watched some more.
馬蒂又觀察了一段時間。
Every now and then, over the next few days, Marty had a chance to talk to the bully.
在接下來的幾天當中，馬蒂偶爾會有一次和那惡霸說話的機會。
He didn't. Even if he didn't recognize Marty, Marty wouldn't have known what to say.
但他沒有和他說話。即使他沒有認出馬蒂，馬蒂還是不知道該說些什么。
Marty began to doubt his desire for revenge，even if his life was still in ruins.
馬蒂開始懷疑他是否真的還想復仇，雖然他的生活仍然處于毀滅狀態。
Then something in Marty changed.
后來馬蒂也發生了一點變化。
Seeing the old bully allowed him to let go of his anger.
看到那個當初的惡霸他的氣就消了。
Every cloud has a silver lining. Seeing the old bully as a human being allowed Marty to move on with his life.
黑暗中總有一線光明?？吹竭^去的惡霸現在活得像個人,馬蒂便鼓起了生活的勇氣。
Now, every so often when Marty thinks back on that bully, he is no longer angry.
現在，當馬蒂偶爾回想起惡霸當初的所作所為時，他已經不再生氣了。
Anybody can change. Even old bullies!
任何人都會變，哪怕是過去的惡霸！
