39.Playing on the Street
39.街頭表演
I was standing in front of a bulletin board when something brushed upon my side.
我正站在一個布告牌前，忽然感覺有種東西在我側(cè)面擦過。
I thought it was an accident, but I later found that my wallet had been stolen.
我以為那只是別人不小心弄的，但后來我發(fā)現(xiàn)我的錢包不見了。
My faith in man was suddenly blown away, like a house built on sand.
我對人的信任突然一下垮掉了，就像沙土上建的房子一樣。
Realizing that my money was gone, I almost cried, my budget-concious wife was going to be upset.
等我意識到我的錢沒了，我?guī)缀醵家蘖耍驗槲夷亲⒅亻_源節(jié)流的妻子肯定會生氣的。
Our food budget for the month had been in that wallet.
我們這個月的伙食專款就在那個錢包里面。
As I started home, however, I bumped into an old friend.
可是在我準(zhǔn)備回家的時候，我碰到一位老朋友。
He was playing guitar on the street.
他在街上彈吉他。
And people were bunched up around him to give him money.
人們擠在他周圍掏錢給他。
He brushed them aside when he saw me and invited me to join him.
看到我，他把人群推到一邊并邀請我一起演奏。
I brushed his invitation off for a moment, and then realized that it was an opportunity.
對他的邀請我推辭了一會兒，但后來我發(fā)現(xiàn)這是一次機會。
I sat down.
我坐下來。
He passed me the guitar and I began to play.
他把吉他給我，我開始演奏。
It was just like the old days.
我感覺好像又回到了過去。
I even built up the crowd a bit!
我甚至讓人增加了一些！
The guitar was quite nice too, amplifying my sounds through the built-in pickup.
那把吉他也不錯，我的聲音被它的內(nèi)置拾音器放大了。
I was just bringing the crowd along into another song when I had to stop because of a broken string.
我正準(zhǔn)備把他們帶到另一首曲子中，這時一根弦斷了，我只好停了下來。
One lady, who was as pretty as a penny and brown as a berry, actually groaned that I had to stop.
一位女士對我不得不停下來居然發(fā)出了抱怨，她美得像銅幣一樣耀眼，皮膚黝的像漿果。
I smiled and she offered me a drink in a brown paper bag.
我笑了，她給我一個棕色包裝紙袋裝的飲料。
I thanked her, fixed the string and continued playing.
我說了聲謝謝，把弦修好，繼續(xù)表演。
And hour later I stood up to leave, thanking my friend for letting me play.
一個小時后，我謝完朋友讓我表演，準(zhǔn)備起身離開。
When he tried to offer me the money I brushed his hand to the side.
朋友想給我錢，我把他的手推到一邊。
Seeing how much there was, however, I look it.
但是，看到是多少錢后，我還是收下了。
It was more than what had just been stolen from me.
那些錢比我剛才被偷的還要多。
