35.感到厭倦的女友
What it all boiled down to was this: Tim bored the pants off of Sally.
問題的要點可歸結為：蒂姆讓薩利煩厭透了。
She wanted excitement.
她想尋找刺激。
She wanted to break away from the monotony of life.
她想擺脫單調的生活。
She wanted to bounce about from club to club, get drunk, and go to parties!

She didn't want to worry about the bread and butter of life, an income that broke even with expenses a bosom friend, or hanging out at the box office window for the first seats to a new movie.
她不想為生計操心，不想為收支相抵的工資操心，也許不想為知心朋友操心，或者為一部新電影的前排座位在售票處窗戶底下蕩來蕩去。
That was what Tim wanted.
而這正是蒂姆想要的。
It had therefore been a relationship that was bound to end before it had even begun.

Sally had thought Tim was interesting in the beginning.
開始的時候薩利認為蒂姆是個有趣的人。
But that was just oldfashioned romance, something she wasn't used to.

Tim had helped her pick up her book bag when it fell.
薩利的書包掉了，蒂姆幫她撿了起來。
That bordered on a miracle for Sally and allowed Tim to break in to her closed world of self-fulfillment.

Sally had almost cried that first day that someone would help her like that.
第一天有人愿意那樣幫她，她幾乎都要哭了。
She never broke down for Tim again.

And soon her schedule was constanly booked up, allowing no time for time to even see her for a minute.

He knew that something had changed, that he had somehow bombed out.

But he never broke his faith in the goodness of Sally, even after she slammed her door in his face.

Tim loved Sally and he promised that he would wait for her to come back.
