Twenty Six Out of Character
第二十六課 出乎意料
"Don't be so bound up with tradition, Sir Harry!" said the slimy man named Macklebee.
"哈利爵士，別那么拘泥于傳統(tǒng)！" 那個(gè)可惡的名叫麥考比的人說(shuō)。
"I know you're descended from honorable people, but you're broke now.
"我知道你出生于體面人家，但你現(xiàn)在破產(chǎn)了。
Something has to be done.
你得想點(diǎn)兒辦法。
This is the only thing that will help."
只有這樣才能幫得了你。 "
"No! I will not murder my brother.
"不！我不會(huì)謀害我的哥哥。
I would be burned up by guilt for the rest of my life if I do.
如果我做了的話，我會(huì)悔恨一輩子。
Even if it meant that I would inherit all of his wealth and my house became carpeted with gold!
即使那意味著我將繼承他所有的財(cái)產(chǎn)，我的屋里鋪滿了金子！
He has always been civil to me, and I do come from honorable people.

I'll find another way."

Macklebee pratically hissed, but he had to be cautious not to push Sir Harry too hard.
麥考比幾乎發(fā)噓聲了，但他得小心謹(jǐn)慎不能把哈利逼急了。
It was Macklebee's idea after all, to murder the brother of Sir Harry for money.
對(duì)哈利爵士的哥哥謀財(cái)害命的點(diǎn)子畢竟是麥考比想出來(lái)的。
It was also his idea to murder Sir Harry after he got the money.
他還想等拿到錢(qián)之后把哈利爵士也給殺了。
Macklebee was capable of anything.
麥考比什么都能做出來(lái)。
And he was determined to get hold of these riches.
他已經(jīng)下定決心要把這些財(cái)產(chǎn)抓到手。
"Ach, be done with it all, then, " Macklebee said as he turned and began to walk away.
"那好，讓一切都了結(jié)了把。"麥考比說(shuō)著轉(zhuǎn)身準(zhǔn)備離開(kāi)。
"I won't be critical of your morals.
"我不會(huì)批評(píng)你的道德觀念。
I suppose it can even be credited to your forgotten family name.
我想它甚至可以歸功于你那已經(jīng)忘掉了的姓。
Go back to your run down shanty house on the lower east side and piss in that hole you call a toilet.
回到你那東邊破爛不堪的房子，在那個(gè)你稱之為馬桶的破洞里撒尿吧。
I can be busy with helping others meet their needs."
我可以忙點(diǎn)兒別的事，幫助別人滿足他們的需要。"
Noting that it was not characteristic of Macklebee to give up so quickly, Sir Harry hesitated.
哈利爵士猶豫了，因?yàn)樗⒁獾竭@么快就放棄不是麥考比的特點(diǎn)。
He himself had never been characterized by a willingness to commit a crime, but maybe Macklebee was right!
他自己還從來(lái)不具有愿意犯罪的特征，但也許麥考比是對(duì)的！
Maybe this was the only way!
也許這是唯一的辦法！
"Wait, " Sir Harry said.
"等等。" 哈利爵士說(shuō)。
Macklebee stopped.
麥考妣停了下來(lái)。
"Come back."
"回來(lái)吧。"
Macklebee smiled to himself and then turned around to walk back to Sir Harry.
麥考比暗自笑了，他轉(zhuǎn)身向哈里爵士走去。
