The Senate narrowly voted to confirm embattled Pete Hegseth as secretary of the Department of Defense, in a major win for President Donald Trump and his new administration. Vice President JD Vance cast the 51-50 tie-breaking vote after former GOP Leader Mitch McConnell and GOP Sens.
參議院以微弱優(yōu)勢投票確認陷入困境的皮特·海格塞斯擔任國防部部長，這是唐納德·特朗普總統(tǒng)及其新政府的一次重大勝利。副總統(tǒng)萬斯投出了51票對50票的決勝票。
Hegseth, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, joined Fox News in 2014 as a contributor and eventually became co-host of "Fox & Friends Weekend." He left his job at the network after Trump said he intended to nominate him to lead the Department of Defense.
海格塞斯曾在伊拉克和阿富汗服役，2014年加入福克斯新聞，擔任撰稿人，最終成為《福克斯和朋友周末》的聯(lián)合主持人。在特朗普表示打算提名他領(lǐng)導(dǎo)國防部后，他辭去了在CNN的工作。
Hegseth is the most divisive candidate to clinch the US military's top job, a position that has historically gone to candidates with deep experience running large organizations and who enjoy broad bipartisan support. It was only the second time in history a cabinet nominee needed a tie-break to be confirmed.
海格塞斯是贏得美國軍方最高職位的最具爭議的候選人，這一職位歷來由那些擁有豐富的大規(guī)模組織管理經(jīng)驗并且享有兩黨支持的候選人擔任。這也是美國歷史上第二次內(nèi)閣提名人選需要通過打破平票來獲得上任批準。
Murkowski later told CNN that Hegseth “l(fā)acks that strength of character” needed to lead the Department of Defense.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized Hegseth Friday morning, calling him “one of the most erratic, unqualified and unfit Cabinet nominees we have ever seen in modern times” and warning that his confirmation would endanger the “credibility of the Republican majority.”
參議院少數(shù)黨領(lǐng)袖查克·舒默星期五上午批評了海格塞斯，稱他是“我們在現(xiàn)代歷史上所見過的最不穩(wěn)定、最不合格、最不適合的內(nèi)閣提名人。”并且發(fā)出警告如果他被確認，將危及“共和黨多數(shù)的信譽”。
