The Committee on Enforced Disappearances has recently made a disturbing claim: over 20,000 unidentified bodies are allegedly stored in a hangar at Bogota's El Dorado International Airport. Following its visit to Colombia, the United Nations Committee issued a damning report highlighting the presence of tens of thousands of disappeared persons across the country.
According to the findings, disappearances continue to occur in a variety of circumstances, including forced recruitment by illegal armed groups, human trafficking, falsification of identity and appropriation of children, migration, social protests, and social leaders, especially in relation to land conflicts.
The Committee has shared its preliminary findings with Colombia and will publish a full public report between March 17 and April 4, 2025.
