For many birdwatchers, it's a dream trip to witness dozens of tiny, toddlerswiftlets lined up, hanging from the walls of their pitch-black home within theAnatakitaki Kopeka Cave. Similar to bats, these echolocating birds are endemicto Atiu—and only 500 or so remain. Marshall Humphreys is the only tour operatoron the island offering guided tours to see these kopeka birds. The three-hourexcursion commences with a cool dip in a candlelit grotto. Nesting season isMay to October.
