一.expect：v.預期, 期待, 盼望
【詞義辨析】
desire, wish, hope, expect, want, long
這些動詞都有“希望”之意。
desire語氣較正式莊重，著重渴望的力量與熱切，常含有強烈的意圖和目的。
wish語氣較弱，多指難于實現或不可能實現的愿望。
hope指對愿望實現有一定信心的希望。
expect通常指有很大程度的把握，但仍含有預料之意，或預計某事或某行動的發生。
want一般指所想要的東西是切望得到的東西，能彌補實際需要。
long語氣強，指極殷切地盼望著，這種盼望側重于很難或不可能得到的東西。有時也指一般愿望，但含一定感情色彩。
【例句用法】
I expect I will be back on Sunday.
我預計我會在周日回來的。
I will do what is expected of me.
我會盡本分的。
二.through：adv.通過, 徑直, 自始至終, (電話)接通, 完全 prep.穿過, 憑借, 一直到 adj.直達的, 直通的, 貫穿的, 完成的, 結束的
【語法用法】
在美國，through意為“完了的”，through with意為“關于……完了的”。get through with the examination意為“考試完畢”，但get through the examination（沒有with）在英美都意為“考試及格”；
through可作形容詞。
He is through with asking questions.
他把要問的問題都已問完。
若將句中的with省去，through仍為形容詞，但asking則變成了現在分詞。
在美國，from Monday through Friday意為“從周一到周五，包括周五”，from astronomy through zoology意為“從天文學到動物學的各種科學”；
across和through的區別同on和in類似，across指從表面穿過，而through則指從三維空間中間穿過。
We walked across the ice.
We were on the ice.
I walked through the wood.
I was in the wood.

錯句: This has been seen in the endless stream of bills through parliament.
訂正: This has been seen in the endless stream of bills passing through parliament.
翻譯: 這可從議會中通過的的層出不窮的法案中看出。

1.across, along, over, through
這些前置詞均有“橫過、穿過”之意。
across指“從……的一邊到另一邊”，強調橫過，多與動態動詞連用。
along指沿著一條直線在水平方向上運動。一般表動態，有時也與靜態動詞連用。
over常和動態動詞連用，指“從……上面越過”或“橫越”；表靜態時，指“在彼處”。
through側重從一端穿到另一端。
2.across, through, cross
都可表示“橫過”或“穿過”
across主要表示從某物的表面“橫過”，涉及“面”的概念。
My house is across the harbour，in the vicinity of the Kowloon Park．
我的家在海港的對岸，九龍公園附近。
They live across the Central Plaza.
他們住在中央廣場的對面。
Everyone shouts "kill it" when a rat is seen to run across the street．
老鼠過街，人人喊打。
through則表示從某個空間“穿過”，涉及“體”的概念。
crossacross和cross在拼寫上僅差一字之微，故很易混淆。它們的區別在于詞性和使用場合有所不同。across是介詞；cross是動詞。
He has crossed the border into another territory．
他已越過邊界進入別國的領土。
Many steel arch bridges cross the Mississippi in its lower reaches．
