Beijing is competing against Kazakhstan's seat of government, Almaty, for the right to stage the event, and that means the conference hall is already becoming the center of attention for the delegations in attendance, well ahead of Friday's opening meeting.

KL is one of the main metropolitan hubs in Southeast Asia, with the Twin Towers firmly established as the city's most famous landmark. The Olympic confab will take place in a building next to that renowned complex, and Malaysian officials say they're well-prepared to host their first-ever IOC Session.
