A Letter
一封信
Dear Mother and Dad,
親愛(ài)的爸爸媽媽?zhuān)?/div>
Since I left for college I have been remise in writing and I am sorry for my thoughtlessness in not having written before. I will bring you up to date now, but before you read on, please sit down. You are not to read any further unless you are sitting down, okay?
從我上大學(xué)以后就疏于寫(xiě)信，我為自己的粗心大意感到抱歉。我現(xiàn)在就會(huì)把一直到最近為止的情況都告訴你們，只是在讀信前，我請(qǐng)你們一定先坐下。你們要是不坐下就讀不下去了，好嗎？
Well, then, I am getting along pretty well now. The skull fracture and the concussion I got when I jumped out the window of my dormitory when it caught on fire shortly after my arrival here is pretty well healed now. I only spent two weeks in the hospital and now I can see almost normally and only get those sick headaches once a day.
現(xiàn)在，哎，我現(xiàn)在一切都好。當(dāng)時(shí)我一到學(xué)校，我的宿舍就著火了，我從窗戶(hù)跳了出去。這一跳導(dǎo)致我頭骨骨裂還有腦震蕩，現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)基本上好了。我只在醫(yī)院里待了兩個(gè)星期，現(xiàn)在我看東西已經(jīng)基本上恢復(fù)正常了，而且討厭的頭痛一天也只會(huì)煩我一次了。
Fortunately, the fire in the dormitory, and my jump, was witnessed by an attendant at the gas station near the dorm, and he was the one who called the Fire Department and the ambulance. He also visited me in the hospital and since I had nowhere to live because of the burnout dormitory, he was kind enough to invite me to share his apartment with him. It's really a basement room, but it's kind of cute.

He is a very fine boy and we have fallen deeply in love and are planning to get married. We haven't got the exact date yet, but it will be before my pregnancy begins to show.
他是個(gè)不錯(cuò)的男孩子，我們深深地相愛(ài)了，而且我們正準(zhǔn)備結(jié)婚。我們還沒(méi)有定好具體的日子，不過(guò)一定是在我的肚子大起來(lái)之前。
Yes, Mother and Dad, I am pregnant. I know how much you are looking forward to being grandparents and I know you will welcome the baby and give it the same love and devotion and tender care you gave me when I was a child.

The reason for the delay in our marriage is that my boyfriend has a minor infection which prevents us from passing our premarital blood tests and I carelessly caught it from him.

I know that you will welcome him into our family with open arms. He is kind and, although not well educated, he is ambitious.

Although he is a different race and religion than ours, I know your often express tolerance will not permit you to be bothered by that.

Dear Mother and Dad, now that I have brought you up to date, I want to tell you that there was no dormitory fire, I did not have a concussion or skull fracture, I was not in the hospital, I am not pregnant, I am not engaged, I am not infected, and there is no boyfriend.
現(xiàn)在，親愛(ài)的爸爸媽媽?zhuān)襾?lái)告訴你們我的近況。我要說(shuō)的是我的宿舍沒(méi)著火，我沒(méi)有頭骨骨裂或是腦震蕩，我沒(méi)住院，我沒(méi)懷孕，我沒(méi)訂婚，我沒(méi)被傳染，我甚至還沒(méi)有男朋友。
However, I am getting a "D" in American History, and an "F" in Chemistry and I wanted you to see those marks in their proper perspective.
