Anti-government protesters have gathered at various sites in Bangkok in a bid to force Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her government out of power. The protests come a day after the opposition Democrat Party announced it would boycott an election in February.
Sunday’s protests are expected to reach a climax this afternoon. The general election is slated for February the 2nd, 2014.
The Democrat Party says it will not file any candidates, and insists the election be postponed until political reform is carried out.
Meanwhile, Yingluck has offered to set-up a national reform council immediately after the election. The Prime Minister says the council should consist of political party representatives, academics, businesspeople and government officials.
