據新聞報道，目前我國只有棉花、番木瓜這兩種轉基因農產品批準商業化生產。

專家表示，截至目前，我國批準了轉基因生產（GM produce）應用安全證書（grant certificates of safety，批準安全證書）并在有效期（term of validity）內的作物（crop）有棉花（cotton）、水稻（rice）、玉米（corn）和番木瓜（papaya）。只有棉花、番木瓜批準商業化種植。
此前網上流傳一份轉基因食品（GM food）名單，包括“圣女果（cherry tomatoes）、大個兒彩椒、小南瓜（mini pumpkins）、小黃瓜”。專家稱這種說法并不準確（inaccurate）。
我國批準進口用作工業用途（industrial use）的轉基因（genetically modified）作物有大豆、玉米、油菜（rapeseed）、棉花和甜菜（beet）。這些食品必須獲得我國的安全證書（receive a certificate of safety）。
