《蝙蝠俠：黑暗騎士》The Dark Knight
Erik Y. One convincing example that progress is only capable through sacrifice is shown in the movie,The Dark Knight.Throughout the film,the heroic vigilante Batman faces his arch-nemesis,the Joker,an anarchist whose sole purpose is to "set fire to the establishment".The idea of a masked vigilante seems to threaten the citizens of Gotham City because Batman acts as though he is above the law.Instead,the people of Gotham turn to District Attorney Harvey Dent,a man so untainted from corrupt business that he is coined the "White Knight".Towards the end of the movie,Joker's ability to manipulate the emotions of others eventually transforms Dent's death,in order to preserve the image of Dent as someone who can be the driving cause for change,Batman takes the blame for his death by assuming the role as the "Dark Knight".Batman's ability to stand for something deeper than just an image of peace,but rather a man of action and justice makes him a hero,but in the eyes of others he becomes a convicted man on the run.Although Batman loses his heroic image by becoming a convict,this sacrifice preserves the idea of change set forth by Dent in Gotham City.
