a candle ,a candleholder ,a big glass jar ,

What do you do?

1.Put the candle in the candleholder.
把蠟燭放在燭臺上。
2.Put the candleholder in the dish.

3.Fill the dish half full of water.
在盤子里放一半水。
4.Light the candle.
點燃蠟燭。
To make a candle burn, you "light" it.
要使蠟燭燃燒,你得點燃它。
What do you use? A match.
你用了什么?一根火柴。
5.Let the candle burn for two or three minutes.
讓蠟燭燒兩到三分鐘。
6.Carefully put the jar over the candle until the top of the jar rests on the dish.

7.Look at the water in the jar.

As the candle burns, it uses up oxygen in the air.

When the candle stops burning, it has used up all the oxygen in the air.

The water inside the jar then rises.

How far did the water rise?

There is about one-fifth oxygen in the air,
空氣里大約有五分之一的氧氣,
so the water rises and fills about one-fifth of the jar.

The candle is pink. The candleholder is gray.
