How to say it:figure flattering
Jessica在北京學(xué)漢語(yǔ)，她的中國(guó)朋友要是遇到了不知道用美語(yǔ)怎么說(shuō)的詞，就會(huì)來(lái)請(qǐng)教她。今天是聽(tīng)眾問(wèn)的：兩面派。
Jessica:吳瓊，我問(wèn)你，“兩面派”用美語(yǔ)怎么說(shuō)？
吳瓊:Ah? Jessica, 你從哪兒學(xué)到這個(gè)詞的？
Jessica:From one of our listeners! 有個(gè)聽(tīng)眾問(wèn)的。
吳瓊:That's cool! Hmm... 我覺(jué)得兩面派一定是double face，對(duì)嗎？
Jessica:Close! Actually it's two-faced.
吳瓊: 哦！two-faced 兩張臉，當(dāng)人一面背人一面，兩面派。
Jessica:That's right. Sometimes a two-faced person will say nice things about you to your face, then tell others nasty things about you when you're not around.
吳瓊:哼，我最討厭這種背后捅刀子的人了。
Jessica:I know! We call these people back stabbers.
吳瓊:Back stabber? S-t-a-b-b-e-r, stabber 是用刀子捅別人的人，所以back stabber 就是在背后給人下刀子的人嘍！Jessica, 不是吹牛，這種人我一眼就能識(shí)破。
Jessica:Wow! You must be a really good judge of character.
吳瓊:judge 是法官，character 是人品，你說(shuō)我是 a good judge of character， 一定是說(shuō)我看人看得準(zhǔn)，眼光犀利，對(duì)嗎？
Jessica:Exactly. two-faced people can't fool you if you're a good judge of character.
吳瓊: 不過(guò) jessica, 我覺(jué)得，two faced people和back stabbers雖然都很討厭，但他們也有些用處！
Jessica:Really?
吳瓊:Yeah. Their existence will help you see who your real friends are! 沒(méi)有他們的存在，怎么能顯出哪些人才是真朋友呢！
Jessica:有道理！Now let's see what you've learned today.
吳瓊:第一：形容某人兩面派是two-faced;
第二：背后害人的人是back stabber;
第三：形容看人準(zhǔn)，可以說(shuō) someone is a good judge of character.
B:楊琳，I forgot to ask─did your best friend have her wedding in the US or in China?
A:在北京啊，我可是為了她專(zhuān)門(mén)飛回去了一趟。
B:Wow. You're a good friend.
A:可不是么！要飛13個(gè)小時(shí)呢！幸好我有個(gè)朋友，幫我搞到了頭等艙的票。
B:Seriously? That's nice! 以后我去中國(guó)，也讓你朋友幫忙弄票吧！
A:No problem! 有熟人在航空公司上班，當(dāng)然可以不費(fèi)力氣地拿到最好的票，不過(guò)一般來(lái)講，還是要自己去旅行社或者網(wǎng)上買(mǎi)票。
B:沒(méi)錯(cuò)，今天的“美語(yǔ)三級(jí)跳”節(jié)目就來(lái)講買(mǎi)機(jī)票。
