Topic 11 Sports or library?
I disagree strongly with theidea that the same amount of money should go to university sports activities asto university libraries. Although playing sports is a wonderful way to learnabout teamwork, strategy and reaching your goals, it should not be theprincipal focus of a university education.（作者上來就表達了自己鮮明的觀點，盡管有些人認為投入運動的錢應該與投入教育的錢相等，盡管運動能讓人學會團隊合作，策略和毅力完成目標，但是還是不如大學教育更重要。）
Students need the mostup-to-date（這個詞我們前幾天在每日words里學過，是最新的，最前沿的意思）library facilities（設施）available to get the besteducation. Many of those facilities are very expensive to buy and maintain.These include computerized programs and access to Internet research databasesthat students can use to find information all around the world. If a universityis only offering its students resources of a decade ago, it's depriving（使喪失）those students of a tremendous（大量的）amount of information.
Even the book and magazinebudget of universities has gone up tremendously in the last decade. More isbeing published on every subject, and every university wants to have thisinformation available to its students.
It also costs money foruniversities to keep their libraries open. Students need to have access to allthe libraries research tools as much of the time as possible. Because studentsare young and can stay up all night studying, many universities are starting toleave their libraries open all night during exam periods. This costs money,because the staff has to be paid extra to be there. It also costs money to runthe building (electricity, heat) during that time.
Students at universities areonly going to benefit from their education if they can get to all the toolsthey need to learn. Sports are secondary to the resources that students needfrom university libraries. For this reason, libraries should always be betterfunded than sports activities.（作者通過講述圖書館的投入重要性，包括它的信息時效性，資源需求，信息及館內維護都需要資金，以此來表達圖書館更需要被投入）
