Leslie: Are you signing up for the Latin course?

Scarlet: No, why should I? Nobody speaks Latin today.

Leslie: But Latin is the language for ancient Rome! Wouldn't it be great to read the original Latin works? Also in the middle ages, Latin is the language for scholars and scholarly works.

Scarlet: You have to spend years and years learning the language before you could read without hindrance. On the other hand, you could just read the translations.
斯嘉麗：在你能流暢地閱讀拉丁語(yǔ)之前，你得花費(fèi)好幾年時(shí)間學(xué)它，而反過(guò)來(lái)，你可以直接讀譯作呀。
Leslie: OK. Still, I think Latin has a strong influence in languages such as English, German, French and Spanish. Maybe it would help once you've learned Latin.
萊斯利：好吧。我還是覺(jué)得拉丁語(yǔ)對(duì)于英語(yǔ)、德語(yǔ)、法語(yǔ)和西班牙語(yǔ)等語(yǔ)言產(chǎn)生過(guò)很大影響，也許學(xué)拉丁語(yǔ)會(huì)有助于學(xué)這些語(yǔ)言呢。
Scarlet: Fine. Since you are so interested, sign in. I'm not taking the trouble.
