你在廣播里將聽到一所房子失火的情況。說話的有房主、消防隊(duì)長、在一旁觀看的人和當(dāng)?shù)仉娕_記者,下面是記者和消防隊(duì)長的一段對話。

REPORTER: Was there anyone inside?
FIREMAN:NO... no One.
REPORTER:And have you got the fire under control?
FIREMAN: Yes, We have.
REPORTER: Well did you have any difficulties?
FIREMAN: Not really...
REPORTER: What about that paint shed? Were you worried about it?
FIREMAN: Yes...a little... but it's O.K. now.

1. ASKING FOR INFORMATION 了解情況
用特殊疑問句:
What's happened?
Where's the fire?
When did it start?
Whose house is it?
Who lives here?
用一般疑問句
Did you see the fire?
Has the fire brigade arrived yet?
Was there anyone inside?
(要了解情況,也不限于使用這兩種問句,但這兩種問句用得最多。)
2.GIVINGINFORMATION提供情況
現(xiàn)在看一看上面有些問題可以怎樣回答。
What's happened?
There's a fire.
Where's the fire?
Over there!
When did it start?
Five minutes ago.
Whose house is it?
I don't know.
Who lives here?
That man - over there.
3.WAYS TO CHECK, CLARIFY AND CORRECT INFORMATION 核實(shí)情況、進(jìn)一步說明情況、糾正錯(cuò)誤說法
a) Checking Information 核實(shí)情況
What do you mean?
Are you sure/certain?
用反意疑問句,例如:
He's the owner, isn't he?
(反意疑問句還有其他用途。)
b) Clarifying Information
進(jìn)一步說明情況
I mean...
What I mean is...
c) Correcting Information
糾正錯(cuò)誤說法
No, that's not really true.
CONVERSATIONAL DEVICES
What I mean is.../I mean...
這兩個(gè)說法常在會語中用來表示要作進(jìn)一步說明。例如:
a) BARBARA: I don't like black. What I mean is, it isn't my favourite colour.
b) JOHN: I'm not hungry. I mean I don't feel like eating.
PRONUNCIATION CORNER
在廣播里可以聽到英語問句使用的兩個(gè)主要語調(diào):
1.特殊疑問句,末尾通常用降調(diào):
Who came?
When did it happen?
2.一般疑問句,末尾通常用升調(diào):
Do you know?
Is she coming?
Has he finished?
