在第23講,我們談到一對年輕人準備結婚。要辦結婚酒席,可就要找飯館兒了。
在這一講里,飯館兒老板Sinclair先生有一個學徒,名叫Ross,他上班遲到了,只好向老板道歉。

MR SINCLAIR:Morning,Ross.
ROSS:Sorry I'm late.
MR SINCLAIR: You were late yesterday too.
ROSS: I know. Sorry about that.
MR SINCLAIR: And the day before.
ROSS: I'm very sorry, Mr Sinclair. I'll try to get up earlier.
此外,Ross還老闖禍。在廣播里,可以聽到他每次闖禍以后怎樣向Sinclair先生道歉。

APOLOGIZING道歉
1.MAKING APOLOGIES向別人道歉
表示道歉的說法很多,大都要用sorry一詞:
Sorry.
Oh, sorry!
I'm sorry.
I'm very sorry/awfully sorry/so sorry/I am sorry.(這幾個說法,語氣比較重)
Sorry I'm late.(說明道歉的原因)在比較正式或比較嚴肅的場合道歉,就不用sorry.而用名詞apology,或用動詞apologize。例如:
I have AN APOLOGY to make.
I haven't finished the job yet.
這樣說,F面緊跟著就要解釋,為件么要道歉。I have有時可以代之以I've got。
must APOLOGIZE FOR the delay.
I must APOLOGIZEFOR beiNG late.
(For后面要接名詞,例如the delay,或者接ing形式的動詞。)
2.ACCEPTING APOLOGIES接受別人道歉
別人道歉,我們通常是不拒絕的。接受別人道歉,說法很簡單:
That's O.K./That's all right.
Not to worry
(= there's no need to worry).
It doesn't matter.
Forget it.(意思是:這件事就算過去了,繼續做別的事吧。也表示有些不高興。)
No problem.
這些都是英語口語中常用的說法。
