語系口譯專業學習，其間獲“21世紀·愛立信杯”第七屆全國英語演講比賽冠軍并出版譯作三本。2003年8月入外交部翻譯室工作，次年9月公派赴英國留學。

孫寧在2009年3月第十一屆全國人大二次會議上為發言人李肇星擔任口譯。

Globalization: Challenges and Opportunities for China's Younger Generation

全球化：中國年輕一代所面臨的機遇與挑戰

Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. Today I’m very happy to be here to share with you some of my thoughts on the topic of Globalization. And first of all, I would like to mention an event in our recent history.

女士們、先生們，早上好。很高興今天能在此就“全球化”這一主題來和大家談談我的想法。首先，我要提到的是近代史上的一件大事。

Thirty years ago, American President Richard Nixon made an epoch-making visit to China, a country still isolated at that time. Premier Zhou Enlai said to him, “Your handshake came over the vastest ocean in the world - twenty-five years of no communi-cation.” Ever since then, China and America have exchanged many handshakes of various kinds. The fundamental implication of this example is that the need and desire to communicate across differences in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but by many other nations as well.

三十年前，美國總統理查德·尼克松來中國進行了具有劃時代意義的訪問，那時中國正受到美國孤立。周恩來總理對他說了這樣一番話：“你與我的握手越過了世界上最為遼闊的海洋，這個海洋就是互不交往的25年。”自從那以后，美國和中國已經握過多次不同的手。這一事件充分表明:不同文化、不同意識形態之間的交流不僅僅是兩個國家的需要和愿望，也是更多其它國家的心聲。
