1981年在南京出生的孫寧，1993年考取了南京外國(guó)語(yǔ)學(xué)校，1999年保送北京外國(guó)語(yǔ)大學(xué)英語(yǔ)系口譯專(zhuān)業(yè)。2003年8月，孫寧進(jìn)入外交部翻譯室工作，次年9月公派赴英國(guó)留學(xué)。孫寧在翻譯室工作期間主要為楊潔篪外長(zhǎng)擔(dān)任翻譯。在外交部工作期間，孫寧的工作能力很出色，做人也很低調(diào)，所以頗受好評(píng)，還曾被評(píng)為“外交部?jī)?yōu)秀青年”。
在3月17日的答記者問(wèn)上，李克強(qiáng)總理的特點(diǎn)是大白話多，但其實(shí)要用英語(yǔ)翻譯出漢語(yǔ)原文的韻味來(lái)也不容易，因?yàn)槔羁偫硖貏e喜歡“打比方”。孫寧在為李克強(qiáng)總理做翻譯的時(shí)候，操著一口標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的英式英語(yǔ)，語(yǔ)速平緩，口齒清晰，翻譯準(zhǔn)確。而他每次翻譯完總理的回答后，都會(huì)幫總理禮貌性地補(bǔ)充一句：“Thank you!”
