C. 復(fù)合句

二、采用形合法
意合法雖然是漢語的主要特征， 但這并不意味著英語的形合句譯成漢語時(shí)統(tǒng)統(tǒng)得用意合法。事實(shí)上現(xiàn)代漢語也具有形合的特征，所不同的只這一形式特點(diǎn)不及意合法那么顯著而已。漢語中有不少表示因果、目的、轉(zhuǎn)折、條件等邏輯連接詞或起關(guān)連作用的副詞，如"由于、因此、以至、與其……不如、既…又…、只要.…就.…、才…"等，它們能使?jié)h語句子成分和句子與句子之間的邏輯關(guān)系更加清晰，不易產(chǎn)生歧義。含有這些連接詞的句子與一些意合句相比措辭上顯得更加正式、語氣更加莊嚴(yán)。英譯漢時(shí)，如果采用意合法來翻譯會(huì)造成句意費(fèi)解、邏輯白明，就可采用形合法來翻譯。例如：
（1） I can't tell you anything when you won't listen. 既然你不聽， 我就什么也不對(duì)你說。
（2） She has her weakness, but that doesn't mean she is not qualified for the job. 她有缺點(diǎn)但這并不是說她不能勝任這項(xiàng)工作。
（3） You don't have to worry as long as we are here. 只要我們?cè)谀憔蛣e擔(dān)心。
（4） Since I shall be here again tomorrow, I won't wait any longer. 反正我明天還來， 現(xiàn)在就不等了。
（5） Hardly had we started off when it began to rain. 我們剛要出發(fā)就下雨了。
（6） Elsie, flushed with pride, happiness, and the sweet champagne and already looking more of a Dulver, was compelled to respond. 埃爾西由于驕傲、喜悅， 又喝了幾杯甜香檳酒而臉色通紅， 更象達(dá)爾佛家的人了。現(xiàn)在她只好站起來致答詞。
（7） In the 1950s most Americans believed parents should stay in an unhappy marriage to avoid damaging the children.在50年代， 多數(shù)美國人認(rèn)為， 做父母的即使婚姻不美滿， 也要維持下去， 以免傷害孩子。
其次，我們還可以采用形合法翻譯英語中一些帶有意合特征的句子或漢語與之"形似"的句子。
（1） A clear conscience laughs at false accusations. 只要問心無愧，別人的指責(zé)可以一笑置之。
（2） Winter finds out what summer lays by. 到了冬天才知道夏天儲(chǔ)存東西的重要。
（3） His youth got him off. 由于他年輕， 他得到了寬恕。
（4） With all his shortcomings, he was a conscientious worker.盡管他有缺點(diǎn)， 但工作卻是勤勤懇懇的。
（5） The book sells well. 書賣得好。
（6） The cloth needs cleaning. 衣服要洗了
