2）同一概念在英美語中用不同詞表達。
這類詞語兩者之間的差異尤為明顯，而且數量大。
例如：“電梯”英語是lift，美語是elevator，“履歷”、“簡歷”英語用C.V. （全稱是Curriculum Vitae），美語用resume；“電影”英語用film，美語用movie；“展銷會”、“博覽會”英語常用fair，美語常用trade show；“有限責任公司”英語習慣上是在公司的名稱下加Ltd, L'd，或Ld.,美語則使用Inc.（=Incorporated），如：The British Tobacco co. Ltd.（英國煙草股份有限公司）. The American Products co, Inc. （美國物產股份有限公司）
美語與英語對于公司領導人的稱謂也很不一樣，我們通常說的公司“經理”，英語用Manager，美語用Director：“總經理”英語是Managing-Director或Managing Director，美語則是Chief-Executive Officer；公司的“總裁”“董事長”英語用Chairman，美語多用President.最應值得注意的是，表達“寄信”，“郵寄”之類的概念，英語用post，美語用mail.
