Confucius once said, “Thirty, therefore independent” (三十而立). This Chinese saying is usually used to encourage young people to be established in their careers by the age of 30.

However, in the newest hit drama of a similar name, Nothing But Thirty (三十而已 ), the saying takes on a different connotation: one of women's empowerment.
