國家主席習近平2月20日給美國蓋茨基金會聯席主席比爾·蓋茨回信，感謝他和蓋茨基金會對中國防控新冠肺炎疫情工作的支持，呼吁國際社會加強協調、共同抗擊疫情。

On 20 February, President Xi Jinping wrote a letter in reply to Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, thanking him and the Foundation for their support for China's fight against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and calling for enhanced international coordination and concerted efforts against the outbreak.

習近平在回信中說，在中國抗擊新冠肺炎疫情的關鍵時刻，你和夫人領導的基金會慷慨解囊，你給我寫信表達對中國人民的支持，我對此表示衷心的感謝。

Now is a critical moment in China's fight against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19)," Xi wrote. "I deeply appreciate the act of generosity of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and your letter of solidarity to the Chinese people at such an important moment."

習近平指出，疫情發生以后，我提出了堅定信心、同舟共濟、科學防治、精準施策的總要求，我們舉全國之力進行防控，采取一系列前所未有的防控和救治舉措，取得了重大成效。我們堅決維護中國人民生命安全和身體健康，也堅決維護世界各國人民生命安全和身體健康，努力為全球公共衛生安全作出貢獻。

"Since the outbreak began, I have called for confidence, unity, science-based approach and targeted response as guidelines for China's epidemic control efforts. We have rallied the whole nation and adopted a string of unprecedented measures to contain and mitigate the epidemic and treat the sick. These extraordinary measures are delivering substantial results. We are resolute in protecting the life and health of the people of China, and of all countries around the world. We are determined to do our part to uphold global public health security," Xi added.

習近平表示，我一直講，人類是一個命運共同體。戰勝關乎各國人民安危的疫病，團結合作是最有力的武器。蓋茨基金會很早就加入全球抗擊新冠肺炎疫情的行動，發揮了積極作用。我支持蓋茨基金會同中方有關機構的合作。我也期待國際社會加強協調，為維護人類健康福祉而一起努力。

"As I often say, mankind is a community with a shared future. To prevail over a disease that threatens all, unity and cooperation is the most powerful weapon. The Foundation has been quick in joining the global action and has played an active role in the global response against the outbreak.
