Jingjing: So, Mark, this is your office.
京晶：馬克，這就是你的辦公室啊。
Mark: You're looking at it. Hey, I'm glad you're finally visiting me here. Before we go to lunch, let me just send out some work and make sure I have everything I need.
馬克：沒錯，正是。嘿，我很高興你終于來這兒找我了。在我們?nèi)コ晕顼堉埃堊屛蚁扰汕惨恍┕ぷ鳎_保我需要的一切都備好了。
Jingjing: Sure, I'll leave you to it. Mind if I play with that Rubik's Cube?

Mark: Go ahead. I'm not anywhere near solving it, as you can see.

Jingjing: Have you ever watched someone solve it or seen videos or other instructions online?

Mark: Nah, I just hoped to figure it out on my own.

Jingjing: Some people can do that—like Chris Gardner.

Mark:The millionaire businessman? I remember the movie about him.

Jingjing: Yeah: The Pursuit of Happyness! There was a scene with him solving a Rubik's Cube right after he first got his hands on one.

Mark: Fun fact: when making that movie, the actor Will Smith learned from a few experts about how to solve the Rubik's Cube. So, that's really him solving the puzzle in the scene.

Jingjing: Well, I'll have to watch it again to see if the camera pans down to his hands, or just cuts to a body double.

Mark: Yeah, and as he's talking about how to solve it in that scene, something about how the corners actually stay in the same place all the time. I'd better watch it again too.

Jingjing: I think you mean the center squares stay in the same place. And you should try to position the piece in the middle of each edge so that the right color is next to each center square. See: green, green, yellow, yellow. Try to make a plus with each color on each side.

Jingjing: Mark, this is a nice restaurant.

Mark: I come here at least once a week, even if I have to eat all by myself.

Jingjing: How did you first find this place? It's a bit off the beaten path.

Mark: I was just wandering around one day when I set out for lunch a little early.

Jingjing: Good for you. Not everyone has a sense of direction.

Mark: Do you?

Jingjing: I'm not bad at directions and finding my way around. Lots of my friends—God bless them—are terrible at it. They rely on me when we travel together.

Mark: You must have learned how to do that at a young age.

Jingjing: Well, you know where I'm from. It's hilly and full of winding streets. Mark, do you think a sense of direction is a learned skill or an innate ability.

Mark: I think it's both. That's the easy answer. Lots of people tell me one of their parents is good with directions and one isn't. Each person needs to develop the skill that helps them to find their way around.

Jingjing: So, people need to work to make it better and better, as with logical intelligence.

Mark: Right. I've read some of Howard Gardner's work, about multiple intelligences. He also doesn't deal with the nature vs nurture debate too much. He says schools should offer an array of learning situations to students, so that they can use any of eight different intelligences to do tasks.
