Dialogue 1
Jingjing: Mark, have you heard about Beijing's new airport?
Mark: You mean T3? I've flown in and out of there dozens of times.
Jingjing: No, it's an entirely new airport, to the south-east of Beijing.
Mark: You mean Tianjin airport? I flew in and out of there once.
Jingjing: No. It's Daxing Airport. It's an international airport 46km from Beijing's city center.
Mark: Oh. I heard years back about plans to build a mega airport. Is it open now?
Jingjing: Yes. It went into operation on September 30. This year alone, it's projected to handle 45 million passengers.
。
Mark: Wow. That'll take a load off Beijing's Capital Airport.
Jingjing: For sure. In the future, when the four runways Daxing has now go up to seven, the new airport should be able to meet the needs of 75-100 million passengers annually.
Mark: Geez. The entire US population could fly through there once every 3 years. Is it running a lot of international flights?
Jingjing: Well, the transition will be gradual. At present, China's major airlines are using Daxing, as well as a few international carriers.
Mark: I can't wait to see it. Do you have any pictures of the terminal?
Jingjing: Yeah. Here: have a look.
Mark: Cool. It looks like a starfish.
Jingjing: Um, Mark, it's supposed to be a phoenix. You know, a phoenix represents strength and renewal.
Mark: Oh. I see that also. You'll have to tell me more about it after I go get some coffee.
Jingjing: You can count on it. I'll be ready with stats.
New words : 習(xí)語(yǔ)短語(yǔ)
take a load off 卸下負(fù)擔(dān)
– relieve the burden of something
terminal 航站樓
– the building for passengers at an airport, including check-in and gates

Dialogue 2
Jingjing: Mark, you're back with something warm to drink.
Mark: Yes, and I'm ready to get an earful of statistics on the new airport.
Jingjing: OK, so here's the big news: the terminal has 700,000m2 of indoor space, while the whole airport spans an area of 47km2.
Mark: That's incredible. It must mean a lot of walking for passengers.
Jingjing: Actually, no. Because of the way the terminal is designed, it should take less than 8-10 minutes to get from gate to gate.
Mark: Well, that's the best news. People on connecting flights will be especially pleased about that.
Jingjing: So, are you thinking of going out there to visit?
Mark: Well, you said it was almost 50km from here. Soft pass, until I actually have to fly.
Jingjing: That's understandable. But another piece of good news is that it takes only 19 minutes by express train. It departs from Caoqiao.
Mark: I'll have to look at the subway map to see where that is.
Jingjing: There are a bunch of options. I read about another, more direct, train that takes 30 minutes in total.
Mark: Well, I'll look forward to my next trip, especially if I'm headed through Daxing. Just one more question.
Jingjing: Try me. I hope I have the info.
Mark: How much did it cost to build the new airport?
Jingjing: It cost 80 billion yuan.
Mark: That's a pretty penny. But I imagine it'll pay for itself in business growth and convenience.
