California Mandates Solar Power on New Homes
California is taking a major step in reducing greenhouse gases by mandating the use of solar panels on new homes and buildings in the state. If approved, the mandate will apply to new homes and apartment buildings built after January 2020. Some exceptions will apply, including homes and buildings that are completely in shade. The solar panels will bring an added cost to home prices, but the savings in energy will more than cover the extra mortgage costs. Builders will be adding solar panels to individual homes or creating shared power systems. California is the first US state to take this energy-saving initiative.
