For most of us, there is only the unattended
就我們多數(shù)人來說，我們有的不過是被我們虛度的
Moment, the moment in and out of time,
瞬間，在時間之內(nèi)和時間之外的瞬間，
The distraction fit, lost in a shaft of sunlight,
不過是一次消失在一道陽光之中的心煩意亂，
The wild thyme unseen, or the winter lightning
沒有被人賞識的野百合花香，或是冬天的閃電
Or the waterfall, or music heard so deeply
或是飛濺的瀑布，或是聽得過于深切
That it is not heard at all, but you are the music
而一無所聞的音樂，但是只要樂曲余音未絕，
While the music lasts. These are only hints and guesses,
你就是音樂。這些不過是暗示和猜測，
Hints followed by guesses; and the rest
暗示后面跟著猜測；其余就是
Is prayer, observance, discipline, thought and action.
祈求，遵奉，修持，思索和行動。
The hint half guessed, the gift half understood, is Incarnation.
猜出一半的暗示，懂得一半的贈予，是基督化為人身。
Here the impossible union
這里，各種生存地位不可能取得一致
Of spheres of existence is actual,
是確實無疑的，
Here the past and future
這里，過去和未來
Are conquered, and reconciled,
已被征服，并且獲得和解，
Where action were otherwise movement
在這里行動不過是
Of that which is only moved
目前被驅(qū)動的事物的另一種運動，
And has in it no source of movement -
運動的始源并不在于它本身之內(nèi)——
Driven by d?monic, chthonic
而是受魔鬼的力量，地下的
Powers. And right action is freedom
力量的推動。而正當(dāng)?shù)男袆?/div>
From past and future also.
也不受過去與未來的約束。
For most of us, this is the aim
對我們多數(shù)人來說，這是決不可能
Never here to be realised;
在這里實現(xiàn)的目標(biāo)；
Who are only undefeated
我們僅僅是沒有被擊敗而已，
Because we have gone on trying;
因為我們還在繼續(xù)嘗試；
We, content at the last
如果我們的暫時返歸本源能滋育
If our temporal reversion nourish
（離紫杉樹并不太遠(yuǎn)）
(Not too far from the yew-tree)
那意義深長的土地的生命，
The life of significant soil.
我們，終將感到心滿意足。
