When Dorothy awoke the sun was shining through the trees
當(dāng)多蘿茜睜開(kāi)朦朧的睡眼時(shí)，太陽(yáng)穿過(guò)樹(shù)縫照了進(jìn)來(lái)。
and Toto had long been out chasing birds around him and squirrels.
托托很早就跑出去了，追逐著四周的鳥(niǎo)兒和松鼠。
She sat up and looked around her.
她坐起來(lái)看了看四周。
Scarecrow, still standing patiently in his corner, waiting for her.
稻草人仍舊耐心地站在角落里，等候著她。
"We must go and search for water," she said to him.

"Why do you want water?" he asked.
他問(wèn)：“為什么要找水呢？”
"To wash my face clean after the dust of the road, and to drink, so the dry bread will not stick in my throat."
“我們走了很遠(yuǎn)的路，路上很多灰塵，要用水來(lái)洗洗臉，而且還要喝水，這樣的話才吃得下那干面包。”
"It must be inconvenient to be made of flesh," said the Scarecrow thoughtfully, "for you must sleep, and eat and drink.
“這樣看來(lái)，肉做的身體真不方便，”稻草人關(guān)切地說(shuō)，“因?yàn)槟阋X(jué)，吃東西和喝水。
However, you have brains, and it is worth a lot of bother to be able to think properly."
然而你有腦子，它可以理智的思考，這值得讓你去經(jīng)歷許多煩惱的事。”
They left the cottage and walked through the trees until they found a little spring of clear water,
他們從茅舍里走出來(lái)，直到他們發(fā)現(xiàn)了一小股清清的泉水，
where Dorothy drank and bathed and ate her breakfast.
多蘿茜便（高興地）喝著，洗著，吃著她的面包。
She saw there was not much bread left in the basket,

and the girl was thankful the Scarecrow did not have to eat anything,
這個(gè)女孩于是很慶幸稻草人不用吃任何東西。
for there was scarcely enough for herself and Toto for the day.

When she had finished her meal, and was about to go back to the road of yellow brick,
當(dāng)她吃完了面包正準(zhǔn)備回到黃磚路上時(shí)候，
she was startled to hear a deep groan near by.
路旁一聲深長(zhǎng)的呻吟。把她嚇了一跳。
"What was that?" she asked timidly.
她膽怯地問(wèn)：“是什么東西在呻吟？”
"I cannot imagine," replied the Scarecrow, "but we can go and see."
“我不知道，”稻草人回答說(shuō)，“我們可以過(guò)去看看。”
Just then another groan reached their ears, and the sound seemed to come from behind them.
另外一聲呻吟又傳到他們的耳朵里，這聲音似乎來(lái)自他們的后面。
They turned and walked through the forest a few steps,
他們轉(zhuǎn)過(guò)身來(lái)，穿過(guò)樹(shù)林走了幾步，
when Dorothy discovered something shining in a ray of sunshine that fell between the trees.
多蘿茜看見(jiàn)有什么東西反射出太陽(yáng)一道光，照射在樹(shù)林里。
