Pinocchio obediently bent his two knees to the ground and remained kneeling until the Manager, with the crack of the whip, cried sharply: "Walk!"
皮諾喬聽話地馬上把兩個前膝跪在地上，直到班主把鞭子一抽，對他尖聲叫道：“開步走！”
The Donkey lifted himself on his four feet and walked around the ring.
于是驢子站起來，開始繞馬戲場走。
A few minutes passed and again the voice of the Manager called:
走了一會兒，班主又叫：
"Quickstep!" and Pinocchio obediently changed his step.
“齊步走！”皮諾喬聽從命令齊步走。
"Gallop!" and Pinocchio galloped.
“快步跑！”于是皮諾喬改為快步跑。
"Full speed!" and Pinocchio ran as fast as he could.
“全速跑！”于是皮諾喬盡全速地跑。
As he ran the master raised his arm and a pistol shot rang in the air.
他正跑的時候，班主舉起胳膊朝天開了一槍。
At the shot, the little Donkey fell to the ground as if he were really dead.
小驢子一聽槍響，馬上直挺挺倒在地上，好像真的死了。
A shower of applause greeted the Donkey as he arose to his feet.
驢子在掌聲如潮中站了起來。
Cries and shouts and hand clappings were heard on all sides.
四周都充斥著尖叫、歡呼和掌聲。
At all that noise, Pinocchio lifted his head and raised his eyes.
在嘈雜聲中，皮諾喬抬起頭向上一望。
There, in front of him, in a box sat a beautiful woman.
在他面前，一個包廂里坐著一位美麗的太太。
Around her neck she wore a long gold chain, from which hung a large medallion.
她脖子上掛著一串很大的金項鏈，項鏈上吊著一個掛飾。
On the medallion was painted the picture of a Marionette.
掛飾上畫著一個木偶的像。
"That picture is of me! That beautiful lady is my Fairy!" said Pinocchio to himself, recognizing her.
“這是我的像啊！這位美麗的太太是我的仙女！”皮諾喬心里說，馬上認出了她。
He felt so happy that he tried his best to cry out: "Oh, my Fairy! My own Fairy!"
他感到萬分高興，盡其可能的大聲呼喊到：“噢，我的仙女！我的仙女！”
But instead of words, a loud braying was heard in the theater, so loud and so long that all the spectators—
可是發出來的不是人話，而是驢叫聲，回蕩在戲院里，叫得又響又長，所有觀眾，
men, women, and children, but especially the children—burst out laughing.
男士和女士，特別是小孩子，都哈哈大笑起來。
