1. Barcelona is particularly beautiful

They have kept much of the old city—the architecture that made the city famous—they did not demolish it

They have restored a lot of the buildings and created a very liveable city

It was great for us to go there and see that they have retained the old buildings

If the buildings are not used for what they were originally built for, they have been converted into shopping centres or into hotels

But the atmosphere is still there—we could really enjoy the architecture there

Madrid—I enjoyed Madrid but it did not have the earthy culture that Barcelona has
It is more government, more capital, business whereas Barcelona is more cultural, artistic

2. One of the things in Madrid that I really did love was the San Miguel market

A very famous market in Madrid—a food market—I am not sure how much weight I put on because I really ate my way around Spain

San Miguel market is very famous for all sorts of food—we had lunch there one day—most enjoyable

From Madrid we headed out into a couple of ancient cities—Segovia was one of those.

From there we headed into the wine country—into dry areas—reminded me a lot of Mildura in Victoria (Australia) where you have a dry climate but they have canals and a lot of water and so it is very good for the wine

The Bodegas—you go in—it is the big barrels of wine—you can sit there all day sampling until you decide which one to take a bottle back

A lot of these bodegas are underground—in naturally occurring caves or they dig down
