第23章
As soon as Pinocchio no longer felt the shameful weight of the dog collar around his neck, he started to run across the fields and meadows, and never stopped till he came to the main road that was to take him to the Fairy's house.
皮諾喬一覺得脖子上那個丟臉的狗頸圈沒有了，就撒腿跑過田野和牧場，一分鐘也不停地直來到通往仙女家的那條大道。
When he reached it, he looked into the valley far below him and there he saw the wood where unluckily he had met the Fox and the Cat, and the tall oak tree where he had been hanged;
當他到達時，他低下頭來看遠低于自己所在的山谷。他看見了當初不幸遇見狐貍和貓的地方；還有他曾被吊著的那棵高橡樹。
but though he searched far and near, he could not see the house where the Fairy with the Azure Hair lived.
可他從遠到近的看，就是看不到天藍色頭發的可愛仙女的房子。
He became terribly frightened and, running as fast as he could, he finally came to the spot where it had once stood. The little house was no longer there.
他感到深深的恐懼，開始盡最快的速度跑起來，終于到了它之前所在的地方。小房子已經不見了。
In its place lay a small marble slab, which bore this sad inscription:
它原來所在的地方只有一小塊大理石碑，石碑上刻著銘文：
HERE LIES THE LOVELY FAIRY WITH AZURE HAIR WHO DIED OF GRIEF WHEN ABANDONED BY HER LITTLE BROTHER PINOCCHIO
這里安眠著天藍色頭發的可愛仙女，由于遭受了她弟弟皮諾喬的遺棄，因悲傷而溘然長逝。
The poor Marionette was heartbroken at reading these words.
可憐的木偶讀完這幾行字后心碎不已。
He fell to the ground and, covering the cold marble with kisses, burst into bitter tears.
他摔倒在地上，把那塊冰冷的大理石碑吻了個遍，嚎啕大哭起來。
He cried all night, and dawn found him still there, though his tears had dried and only hard, dry sobs shook his wooden frame.
他哭了整整一夜，到第二天黎明仍然在那兒，盡管眼淚早已哭干，只能用力干咽的抽泣，這使得他的木頭框架都在抖動。
But these were so loud that they could be heard by the faraway hills.
這些聲音如此之響，以至于在遠處的山上都能聽見。
