Engineers at Stanford University developed a plastic-based textile that can be woven into fabric for clothing, in order to help people in hot climates stay cool without air conditioning. The new clothing material cools the body more than synthetic or other natural fabrics that are used to make clothes we see today. Yi Cui, Associate professor of Materials Science and Engineering said, "If you can cool the person rather than the building where they work or live, that will save energy," The new material is based off polyethylene. According to the report, wearers would feel nearly 4 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than in cotton clothing. The research team plans to add more colors, textures and clothing characteristics to their new material.
