When I was 18, politics seemed boring. I didn't go and vote. I didn't pay attention. I didn't really care at what age people got their pension—that seemed ages away. I was just starting out. I really had no interest in what politics was about, but I should have. The young are most affected. Most 18 to 24s don't care who gets elected and I'm not surprised. I once felt that way too. Why vote for a system that doesn't represent you?
在我十八歲時(shí)，政治看起來很無趣。我不去投票。我漫不經(jīng)心。我并不真的在意人們幾歲拿到退休金－－那似乎是很久以后的事。我的人生才剛要開始。我真的對政治的內(nèi)容沒有興趣，但我應(yīng)該要有的。年輕人是最受影響的。多數(shù) 18 到 24 歲的青年不在意誰當(dāng)選，我不訝異。我也曾那樣覺得。為什么要投給一個(gè)不代表你的體制？
Middle-aged, middle-classed, old men in old buildings, too posh and too rich to care about the small things. From the same schools and same clubs to same suits and same tailors, to the same privileged upbringings with no experience of failures. When we see them answer questions, a chance they should be seizing, they forget about us and resort to playground teasing, like children, taking part in a food fight, wasting words that have power on a false appetite that lies, that only wants first prize, that cares less about its people and more what power buys.
中年、中產(chǎn)階級、老舊建筑里的老人，太高尚又太有錢，所以關(guān)心不了那些枝微瑣事。從相同學(xué)校和相同社團(tuán)，到同款西裝和同位裁縫師，同樣一帆風(fēng)順、享盡特權(quán)的成長過程。在我們看到他們回答質(zhì)詢，一個(gè)他們應(yīng)當(dāng)把握的機(jī)會(huì)，他們卻忘了我們，轉(zhuǎn)而變成政壇游樂場內(nèi)的嘲諷嬉鬧，像小孩子一樣，攪和在搶食大戰(zhàn)里、浪費(fèi)有實(shí)際力量的話語在不誠實(shí)的錯(cuò)誤欲望上，只想得到第一的欲望、不太關(guān)心人民卻比較關(guān)心權(quán)力能得到什么的欲望。
But the government works for you, and this can all be resolved if you stand up for what you believe in and do your part to get involved. There's strength in your numbers. You're not the minority. You only feel this way as you've been made a low priority by politicians who are chasing the vote. They won't try and please you if they think there's no hope, so prove them all wrong. Prove you have a voice! Do the unexpected and accept you have a choice and vote, but first find out the truth. Look at their policies and how they affect the youth.
但政府是為你做事的，這一切可以被解決，如果你為你的信念挺身而出，盡你的本份去參與。你們的數(shù)量是有力量的。你們并非弱勢。你這樣認(rèn)為只是因?yàn)槟惚荒切┳分疬x票的政客當(dāng)成比較不重要的。如果他們覺得你不會(huì)投給他們，是不會(huì)來試著拜託你的，所以證明他們?nèi)e(cuò)了。證明你是有聲音的!做那個(gè)出乎意料的人，接受你擁有選擇并去投票，但首先要查明真相。檢視他們的政策和他們?nèi)绾螌δ贻p人造成影響。
This world is yours to inherit. It's more your future than theirs. Don't let your life be dictated by the old and billionaires. It's the young that pay tuition. It's the young that fight the wars. It's the young who need jobs, or could end up living outdoors. It's the young who adopt the planet. It's the young who clean up the mess. It's the young that care for the old. So why do the young vote less?
這個(gè)世界由你繼承。這未來比起他們更是屬于你的未來。別讓你的生活被老人和億萬富翁支配。是年輕人在付學(xué)費(fèi)。是年輕人在上戰(zhàn)場。是年輕人需要工作，不然就可能會(huì)淪落街頭。是年輕人要接收這星球。是年輕人要收拾善后。是年輕人要照顧老人。那為什么年輕人比較少投票呢？
You have a say that needs to be respected. People are dying for the right to have a leader that's elected. So register to vote, be a part of democracy. Doing nothing and complaining is outright hypocrisy. You don't have to be a whisper. Your voices are real. You can be the generation that gets a better deal. If you want to make a difference, you have to grow up. A country's fate is decided by those who show up.
你擁有一個(gè)需要尊重的決定權(quán)。人們?yōu)榱藸幦∵x派領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者的權(quán)益賣命。所以去登記投票，成為民主的一部分吧。什么事都不做而抱怨是徹頭徹尾的偽善。你不必當(dāng)個(gè)小聲說話的人。你們的聲音是真實(shí)的。你可以成為得到更好待遇的世代。如果你想要做出改變，你必須長大。一個(gè)國家的命運(yùn)，掌握在站出來的人手中。
