WHO Says Processed Meat is Carcinogenic
The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared that processed meat is definitely a cancer-causing food. Processed meat includes everything from sausages and bacon to salami and ham. According to recent studies, the salting and curing of this type of meat creates cancer-causing chemicals that increase the risk of colon cancer. The World Health Organization also declared that non-processed red meat is probably also cancer-causing, though studies were not as conclusive. Global research suggests that about 34,000 deaths per year are linked to diets that are high in processed meats, while smoking causes about 1 million deaths per year.
