Two municipal officials in the city of Dalian that had their homes burglarized have been placed under investigation after police learned that an unusual amount of cash and valuables were stolen in thefts that took place March and December 2013. Prosecutors say robbers took more than 1 million yuan worth of cash and other items from the home of Li Shengjun, director of the city's Fiscal Bureau, and a similar amount from Xu Lixin, director of the Dalian's Food and Drug Administration. The ringleader of the heist told investigators he did not think the officials would report losses to police because they were corrupt. Indeed, Li did not report the alleged theft at his home. But a local official told Caixin police got involved after thegang kidnapped Xu's wife to get a key to the couple's home.
