Tarantino directed the movie in a highly stylish manner. It is a combination connecting storylines of Los Angeles mobsters, small-time criminals, and a mysterious briefcase. A lot of screen time is devoted to conversations and monologues that reveal the different characters' senses of humor and perspectives on life. The film's title refers to the popular magazines and crime novels that were popular during the mid-20th century. They were known for their graphic violence and dramatic, strong dialogue. Pulp Fiction is viewed asthe inspiration for many later movies that adopted various elements of its style. It had a major effect onthe field of independent cinema (although it is not an independent film itself).
