ANJALI RAO, TALK ASIA:Hi, I'm Anjali Rao in Seoul. My guest today is the movie star heartthrob and the most recognizable face in South Korea, Jang Dong-Gun. This is Talk Asia. This is Talk Asia.Things really started to take off for you in 2000 when you had a starring role in the movie Friend, which at the time was the highest-grossing Korean film ever. What was it like being a part of something so huge?
《亞洲名人聊天窒》安姿麗：大家好，我是安姿麗，在首爾為您帶來今天的節目。我今天的來賓是電影偶像明星，也是韓國最多人認識的面孔:張東健。歡迎收看《亞洲名人聊天室》。你在2000年主演《朋友》之后，事業就開始起飛，當時《朋友》也是有史以來票房最高的韓國影片。參與如此龐大的一場盛事有什么感覺?
JANG DONG-GUN, KOREAN ACTOR:When I first chose the film, even after we'd filmed the entire movie, no one really expected-I certainly didn't expect, nor did any of the actors expect-that it would be so well received. My intention for the film was to show a different side of myself. I actually believed that it was more of an artistic film in that sense, but because it became so popular at the time, I somehow think that the popularity may have, in a sense, undermined the true artistic value that the movie might actually have.
韓國演員 張東健：我一開始選擇這部影片的時候，甚至直到片子殺青之際，都沒有人想到——我完全沒想到，其他演員也都一樣——根本沒想到這部影片會這么受歡迎。我當初出演這部影片是為了要展示向己不同的一面。我其實認為這部影片比較像是藝術片，但因為后來非常熱門，所以就某種程度來說反而降低了這部片真正的藝術價值。
ANJALI RAO, TALK ASIA:That movie though paved the way for your starring role in Taegukgi about the Korean War, which again smashed all known box-office record（s）. Tell us about your experiences of that film.
《亞洲名人聊天窒》安姿麗：不過，那部電影讓你后來有機會主演《太極旗飄揚》這部關于朝鮮戰爭的電影，而且又再次打破了所有的票房紀錄。請告訴我們你拍攝這部影片的經歷。
JANG DONG-GUN, KOREAN ACTOR:The theme of the movie is the Korean War. The Korean War was one of the most significant historical events in modern Korean history. I think that its significance is something that could be well expressed and presented in a film. Personally, my role in the film's was quite appealing to me, and I was quite keen on doing it. And my grandfather's birthplace is in North Korea, and I had heard many stories about the Korean War as a child when I was growing up.
韓國演員 張東健：這部影片的主題是朝鮮戰爭。這是韓國現代史當中最重要的一個歷史事件。我認為電影能夠充分表達并且呈現這個事件的重要性。就我個人來說，我在片中飾演的角色很吸引我，因此非常希望參與演出。而且我的祖父出生于朝鮮，所以我小時候聽過很多朝鮮戰爭的故事。
ANJALI RAO, TALK ASIA:So in 2006 you staged a one-man protest in front of the general assembly here against the government's new policy on domestic films. Didn't last very long though, only a couple of minutes before you got swamped by thousands of fans. Are you concerned about the current state of the film industry in South Korea, as so many others are?
《亞洲名人聊天窒》安姿麗：2006年，你在這里的國會議事堂展開一個人的示威活動，反對政府對國產影片的新政策。不過沒有持續太久，因為幾分鐘后你就被數以千計的影迷困住了。你和許多人一樣對韓國電影產業的現狀感到憂慮嗎?
JANG DONG-GUN, KOREAN ACTOR:Many think the industry is stagnating, but I differ in opinion. In total I've had 15 years of acting, and in the film industry I've had 10 years of experience. Looking back on those 10 years, I can see there'd always been ups and downs within the industry. And when you say things are slow and not going well in the field, the difference rather depends on how many good Korean films have been made. As of now, the reduced quota of films, the rising wages, and also because of the poor performance of the Korean films this year, people are saying things are going bad. I think it only means good films have not been produced lately, that's al l. So I still have a positive outlook, and I believe as more good films are made, positive sentiments will be picked up quickly.
韓國演員 張東健：許多人認為韓國電影產業已經陷入停滯，但我不同意。我總共已經演了15年的戲，在電影方面也有 10年的經驗了。回顧這10年，我可以看到這個產業一直都有高低起伏。如果說這個領域各方面發展緩慢，情況不好，這其實取決于最近究竟拍出了多少部好的韓國影片。就目前而言，由于影片配額減少，工資提高，再加上韓國影片今年表現不佳，所以很多人就說這個產業已經開始走下坡路。我認為這只是表示最近沒有拍出好的影片而已。所以，我對未來的展望還是樂觀的，而且我認為只要拍出多一點的好片子，正面的情緒就會很快被帶動起來。
