Rescuers race to save 22 miners trapped underground in Qujing
In Southwest China, rescuers are racing to pump water from a flooded coal pit, as 22 miners remain trapped.
在中國西南地區,救援人員競相從被水淹沒的礦井中抽水,因為22名礦工仍被困礦井中。
Nine rescue teams with more than 500 emergency workers are at the mine site in Qujing City. Four pumps are running non-stop and the water level underground is dropping. As of Tuesday, contact had still not been made with the trapped miners.
九個救援隊,500多名急救人員都在曲靖礦場救援。四臺泵不停運行,地下水位仍在下降,截至周二,仍未與被困礦工取得聯系。
A State Council working group has arrived at the site to direct the rescue effort. More than 400 relatives of the miners have also arrived at the site. Local Authorities have formed working groups to aid and comfort them.

The accident occurred at 5 A.M. Beijing time on Monday when 26 miners were working underground. Only four managed to make it out safely. The depth of the mine and the amount of flood water is making the rescue work challenging.
