Lesson Seven How to say “毛骨悚然”？ 第三講

【課前熱身】

首先，let's have a review. 在第七課的第一講和第二講中我們學了2個地道的形容一個人被嚇得十分恐懼，極其害怕的美語說法。大家還記得嗎？它們是：make one's hair stand on end 和 make one's blood run cold. Both of them mean "be scared to death"or "be frightened very much". 在中文中，與之同義的四字短語有：不寒而栗，毛骨悚然，膽戰心驚，攝人心寒，魂飛魄散等等。可以翻譯為：嚇死了，嚇了一大跳，嚇得毛發都立起來了，嚇得渾身冰涼等等。

【課堂講述】

但是——還可以翻譯成一個聽起來真是“有傷大雅”的，可是在一定場合又起著“詼諧幽默”之效，用得好人家會覺得你說話有水平，用得不好人家會認為你這個人沒有修養，是個庸俗之人。

下面我們就從今天的課堂上去了解。今天我們開始第七課的第三講。Lesson Seven: How to say "毛骨悚然" in American English? 第七課：“毛骨悚然”，美語怎么說？（第三講）

【基礎篇】

在我們的第三講開始之前，先請大家把鼻子給捏緊一點兒，因為待會兒您會問到一股臭味。Are you ready. Listen to my sentence: They mistake their man if they think they can scare the shit of me like that. 如果人們認為他們就這樣可以把我嚇得屁滾尿流，那他們是找錯人了。在這個句子中用了一個含有shit, s-h-i-t這個單詞的一個短語來表述“毛骨悚然”。它是：scare the shit out of somebody 。在這個短語中，Shit 是“屎”“糞便”的意思，scare the shit out of somebody 就是嚇得一個人的大便都出來了，it is similar to saying "嚇得屁滾尿流" in Chinese。

Let's look at two more sentences to get a grasp of it in order to use it with ease. 1 They tried in vain to scare the shit of me with threads. 他們想以武力把我嚇得屁滾尿流，沒門！（備注：例句中的in vain意思是：徒勞無效。For example: 1 An old dog barks not in vain.有經驗的人不做白出力的事。2 In vain I tried to keep back my tears.我怎么也忍不住我的眼淚。3 I see that I am speaking in vain to a hardened heart.對你這一副鐵石心腸再講也是白費。） 2 The things that I've seen scare the shit of me and it seems unforgettable. 我見到的所有的一切把我嚇死了，至今還有恐懼的心理。

【進階篇】

現在我把scare the shit out of somebody 演變一下。在shit，s-h-i-t的后面加上l-e-s-s, 但是shit跟shitless這個單詞的意思是截然不同。Shit 是糞便的意思，而shitless是非常，極度的意思，it means "very much" or "extremely". 而且shitless在美語中它是一個俚語，是一種非常粗俗的說法。Scare somebody shitless.

Let's look at two more sentences to get a grasp of it in order to use it with ease. 1 James love sneaking up on his sister to scare her shitless. James喜歡溜在他姐姐后面來嚇死她。（備注：sneak up 悄悄靠近，悄悄走進 sneak up on somebody 悄悄靠近，悄悄走進某人 For example : The quiet ones always sneak up on you.有些人總是不鳴則已一鳴驚人。Two men sneak up behind it, carrying a giant bell jar.兩個男人手持罐子，躡手躡腳而上。）John pretended to fire over their head to throw a scare into them and they were scared shitless. John 朝著他們頭上開槍想嚇唬他們，他們真的被嚇得魂飛魄散。（備注： throw a scare into somebody 嚇唬某人）

現在大家可以不要捏住鼻子了。我也不捏了，因為我聞不到臭味了。And now I am on the heaven because I gain an real American expression. If I make use of it in a right setting, a native American must say to you, " Your English is very good. " 我現在高興極了，我學到了一個地道的說法，如果我在合適的場合使用的話，美國人會認為我的英語不同凡響。說到場合，這個正是我要強調的一點，scare the shit out of somebody 和scare somebody shitless 這2個短語都是俚語，是在美國大街小巷普通平民百姓大家說的話。正確的使用俚語可以使您的說話出亮點，如果使用得不好，那結果不堪設想。Scare somebody shitless和scare the shit out of somebody ，如果您是對您親密的朋友開玩笑時說，那么這時候一定會讓大家突然爆發出笑聲，笑得前俯后仰。但是，如果您才開始認識這個人不久，您就這樣說的話，人家會覺得你這人沒文化，沒修養，是個庸者。

【課堂總結】

First , 我們學了與“be scared to death”同義的另一種精彩的口語表述，它們都是俚語，也可以說是街頭語：scare the shit out of somebody 和 scare somebody shitless 嚇得屁滾尿流。Secondly , we must pay attention to the occasions using it to express "you are made frightened extreamely". 第二，我們要住以這個2個街頭語使用的場合。Thirdly , we've got the following phrases: in vain 徒勞無效 throw a scare into somebody 嚇唬某人 sneak up on somebody 悄悄走進（靠近）某人，a hardened heart 鐵石心腸，love doing something 喜歡做某事。 Finally , do remember the following two sentences. The fist one is : The quiet ones always sneak up on you. 有些人總是不鳴則已，一名驚人。A old dog barks not in vain. 有經驗的人不做白出力的事兒。
