【點評】
[陷阱提示] that he fall in love with such a snobbish girl這個主語從句中的fall為什么用這個動詞的原形呢？主語是第三人稱單數，而且主句也是一般現在是呀，原因請參見第87期中【習題1】的[陷阱提示]詳解。
[單詞詳解] snobbish [ˈsnɔbiʃ] 這個詞的英式發英和美式發音區別很大，美式發音為[ˈsna:biʃ]。此外這個詞還有個非正式寫法是：snobby [ˈsnɔbiʃ 。{ 中英雙解} It means " feeling that you are more intelligent than other people ". 譯為：自命不凡的，高傲的。{例句}She is too snobbish as she works very hard and her grades are excellent，which makes her not to make friends with anyone in her class. 由于她學習非常努力，成績格外優秀，所以她非常地高傲，這使得她不愿意和班上任何人交朋友。
{視野拓展}However, another meaning of this word is much more widely used. 但是這個詞的另一個意思更為用得廣泛。What's it? It means " thinking that having a high social class is important". 譯為：勢力的。我們來看英國名著一下《簡.愛》中的一句話：Jane feels she can never compete with these snobbish, elegant people. 簡·愛感到她永遠無法同這些高雅卻勢利的人們競爭。想必大家都讀過我們中國現代文學《圍城》，其中有一句是:“文紈道：“我就不信老同學會那么勢利！” 翻譯則是：Wen-wan said, "I can't believe old classmates could be that snobbish."
