【關鍵短語】
在Jerry話中最精彩的短語就是would rather這個短語。It's similar to saying "prefer to". Both of them means"to like one thing better than another or choose this one better than another one ". 譯為：寧愿，寧可，更喜歡and so on. “Would rather” is a perfectly important phrase. Let's look at it's uses by some example sentences.

① She would rather die than give a speech. 她寧可死也不愿意做演講。Here is sentence pattern: ssomebody would rather do something than do something, 寧可......也不....... ② Would you rather have a walk or take a bus? 你愿意走路還是愿意坐公交車？Here's a sentence pattern: Would somebody rather do something or do something? 某人愿意做這件事還是那件事？③ —— Do you mind if I smoke? —— Well, I'd rather you not. ——如果我抽煙，你介意嗎？—— 嗯，最好不要抽。

Here's a sentence patter: somebody would rather somebody do something. 這個句式在給予兩件事情的前提下，為別人選擇做做其中一件事情。如果是否定句，則在從句中的rather后面加上not。

那么是為自己選擇了，則為對話中的句式somebody would rather do something。For example: —— Do you want to come with me? —— I'd rather not(go with you). 你愿意給我走嗎？—— 不想。

By the way let's look at another phrase including "rather". It is "rather than (something or somebody）" which means "instead of (something or somebody)". 譯為： 而不是(某人或某物)，如果說而不是做某事，than后面接動名詞，即為：rather than doing something. I , rather than you, should do this work. 應該做這事情的是我而不是你。I'll have a cold drink than coffee. 我要的是冷飲而不是咖啡。Rather than 可以放在句子中間，也就是主語和位于之間，前后用逗號都要使用逗號。再如：I , rather than plying Pipa, like to ply piano. （I like to ply piano rather than plying Pipa .） 我喜歡的是彈鋼琴而不是琵琶。
