沃爾特.司各特，生于1771年，1832年去世。司各特18個月時患小兒麻痹癥而有腿萎縮。12歲時進愛丁堡大學。他十分欣賞德國的“狂飆文學”，翻譯過德國著名民謠《萊諾爾》。1802年司各特出版《蘇格蘭邊區歌兩集》。1805年他第一部有分量的作品《最后一個吟游詩人之歌》問世。此后他投資印刷行業。1808年出版詩歌《瑪米恩》，以后他創作了《湖邊夫人》、《特里亞明的婚禮》、《島嶼的領主》等一系列詩歌。他最后一部長詩是《無畏的哈羅爾德》。
