Ken: What kind of movie can I help you find today? A comedy, a sci-fi, or a suspense movie?
Ann: How about an art film?
Ken: I highly recommend The Widow of Saint-Pierre with Juliette Binoche.
Ann: Oh, I love her, but that movie's rented out.
Ken: What about the Cirque du Soleil film?
Ann: I've seen it. Any new romance comedies out?
Ken: Everyone's ranting and raving about Bridget Jones's Dairy.
Ann: Oh, yeah! With that actress from Jerry Maguire...
Ken: Renee Zellweger. It also stars Hugh Grant. The movie received a four-star rating on the Net.
Ann: But it's probably rented out.
Ken: I can check for you...oh, sorry, it is. What about a Chinese flick? There's one out called Suzhou River with Zhou Xun.
Ann: Sounds cool! I bet that's a two-nighter.
Ken: Yep. But if you bring it back tomorrow you get a one-yuan discount.
Ann: I'll do that then. How much is the rental fee away?
Ken: Two yuan. And let me suggest a movie cash card. You get a twenty-yuan value for only sixteen yuan.
Ann: Cool! I'll take one. But what about late fees? I'm terrible when it comes to returning videos.
Ken: They're three per day for some, and two for others.

1. Ann的卡已經辦好了，那么她想租一部什么電影呢？喜劇，科幻片還是懸疑片呢。大家都知道，電影也分很多種類，對話中提到的喜劇電影，就叫comedy；科幻片叫做sci-fi，就是science fiction的縮寫；懸疑片叫做suspense。下面Ann還提到了art film就是藝術電影，還有浪漫喜劇romance comedy。

2. 其它常見的電影類型還有驚悚片thriller和恐怖片horror movie等等。你可以用簡單的kind “種類”這個詞來表達電影的種類，不是一定要用genre這個單詞，挺難讀的。好，我們來舉個例子，---What kind of movies do you like? ---Comedies are my favorite, but Sci-Fi's are pretty cool, too. ---你喜歡哪一種電影？---我最喜歡喜劇片，不過科幻片也很酷。

3. 你也可以用be into something這個句型來表達你對某種電影的偏好，比如說，---Do you like horror movies? ---Not really. I'm more into art films. ---你喜歡恐怖電影嗎？---不算喜歡，我比較喜歡藝術電影。

4. Ken給Ann推薦的是茱莉葉·比諾什主演的《雪地 里的情人》，就是The Widow of Saint-Pierre with Juliette Binoche，這里的with就表示“由誰主演”。recommend表示“推薦”，這里Ken又加了一個highly這個副詞，表示“強力推薦”，強調他喜歡這部電影的程度。

5. highly在這里表示“高度地，非常”，比如說，Stuart Little is a highly amusing film. 《精靈鼠小弟》是一部非常有趣的電影。The goods on display are all very highly priced. 這次展出的物品都是非常昂貴的。

6. Ann也很喜歡茱莉葉·比諾什主演的電影，但是這部電影已經租出去了，be rented out，租完了的。這里out表示“全部，徹底”，比如我們比較熟悉的，something is sold out，就表示“某物已經賣完了，沒有了”。

7. Ken又給Ann推薦了太陽馬戲團那部片子，就是Cirque du Soleil film，Cirque du Soleil，“太陽馬戲團”，是由魁北克一群臨場演出經驗豐富的街頭藝人，在1984年組成的團體，在2000年的時候首度推出影壇代表作《飛躍之旅》，也就是Alegria，Ken所指的可能就是這部電影。

8. 但是Ann好像對這部電影不是很感興趣，她又繼續問，Any new romance comedies out? 有新出的浪漫喜劇片嗎？Ken又給她推薦了《BJ單身日記》，也就是Bridget Jones's Dairy，大家可能對這部電影比較熟悉，是由Hugh Grant 和Renee Zellweger主演的，Renee Zellweger因為和Tom Cruise合演《征服情海》也就是Jerry Maguire而走紅。

9. 看來Ann還是很喜歡她的，而這部《BJ單身日記》也確實受到了好評，rant and rave，表示“大聲地，激動地說話或者奔走相告，喧鬧”，對話中說Everyone's ranting and raving about Bridget Jones's Dairy. 意思是《BJ單身日記》這部電影口碑還不錯，這部電影在網上也獲得了四顆星的評價，Hugh Grant在里面也有不錯的表現。

10. star 這個詞除了表示天上的“星星”和演藝圈里的“明星，巨星”之外呢，還可以用做動詞表示“主演”，比如說，---Who stars in Ocean's Eleven? ---George Clooney and Brad Pitt. ---《十一羅漢》是誰主演的？---喬治·克魯尼和布萊德·彼特。

11. 說到了電影，演員陣容，也就是cast，也是票房號召力之一，尤其是“續集”，sequel 如果由原班人馬演出，也就是original cast，通常都能夠吸引更多的觀眾。比如你剛才說到的Ocean's Eleven《十一羅漢》的續集Ocean's Twelve《十二羅漢》就很賣坐。好，我們現在用sequel “續集”和cast“演員陣容”這兩個詞來做個對話，---Who's going to be in the Matrix sequel? ---The original cast plus a couple of new people. ---《駭客帝國》的續集里會有誰呢？---原班人馬再加上幾個新人。

12. Ken查了一下，這部《BJ單身日記》也租出去了，他又給Ann推薦了一部中國電影，周迅主演的《蘇州河》。flick是一個俚語，意思是“電影”，是一個舊式的用法了。還有the flicks，表示“電影院”，比如說，What's on at the flicks? 電影院現在放映什么電影啊？Ann猜《蘇州河》這部電影肯定是租三天兩夜的。但是Ann要是能明天拿來還，可以優惠一元錢。

13. Ann覺得這樣不錯，又問租片費是多少，the rental fee，就是指“租借的費用”。Ken告訴她是兩元錢，還建議她買一張加值卡，租二十塊錢的片子只要十六塊錢。

14. Ann覺得還挺劃算的，就買了一張。她又問如果還晚了，片子過期的錢怎么算呢？late fees就是“過期應該支付的費用”。在Movietime，有的片子晚一天事三塊錢，其他的是兩塊錢，還真是挺貴的。

Ken: Your cash card is nine hundred yuan, and I'll take eight yuan off for this movie you're bringing back tomorrow.
Ann: Great. Here's a thousand.
Ken: OK. One hundred is your change. Here's your cash card and your membership card. Remember to bring them each time you come!

1.對話中，Ann在跟Ken結賬，她說So how much do I owe you? 我該給你多少錢？owe這個動詞表示“欠錢或者人情”，How much do I owe? /How much do I owe you?/What do I owe you?這三個句子無論是在結賬或者你真的欠別人錢的時候都可以用。比如說，---How much do I owe? ---That'll be three hundred dollars. ---我要給你多少錢？---總共是三百美元。

2. 問到價錢的時候，口語中還有一個用上“災害”，也就是damage這個詞的可愛用法，意思類似于中文里的“破財”。比如說，---That meal was great. What's the damage? ---A hundred dollars. ---這頓飯真好吃，我要破財多少？---正好一百元。Ann的加值卡是九百元，明天還片，Ken就從里面扣八元錢。

3. Ann交了一千塊錢，Ken找了她一百元，并且提醒她每次來都要帶會員卡和加值卡。
