Sometimes even a small boy or girl can do important work just as well as a grown man or woman.

Rob Dunstan, just old enough to go on his first trip with the fishermen, proved that this is true.

When the trip was over, Captain Jim said to him,

THE BLACKFISH COME AT LAST

Rob Dunstan and Charlie Fearing stood on the high bank above the beach one summer morning, looking out over the bay.

"I don't see a sign of blackfish," said Charlie.

" Neither do I," answered Rob. "I guess we might as well go home."

"Maybe there'll be a school of them tomorrow," said Charlie.

"Blackfish don't seem to be so plentiful as they used to be," said Rob sadly.

"Why, my mother says she can remember the time when four or five schools came into the bay every summer;

Blackfish are really a small kind of whale, from fifteen to twenty feet long.

Although they are not useful as food, they are sold for a good price because of the oil contained in their fat.
